Vanille

The Passport for Life program enables passengers with an easily controlled condition to be adopted quickly, before the end of their basic care and/or follow-up for their condition. Families are supported by the organization while medical care is completed, and have the opportunity to contribute to the recovery of their future family member. Mission Mayday covers the basic care and spay/neuter of all animals in the program.

About me

Hi, I'm Vanille; I'm a little princess looking for a forever home! I'm an American Bully type teenager, brimming with life and tenderness. I love being close to my human. My favourite thing? Slipping under the covers for a bit of warmth and cuddles.

My daily life is simple: I need a calm environment and a patient person, who's at home most of the time, to help me with my meals and give me lots of love. At night, I can sleep in a cage or, if you agree, snuggle up with you. I'm sure you'll fall in love with me in no time! I can live in the city, in an apartment or condo, although I'm a bit vocal when I want to play.

I love everyone I meet. I'll jump on my human when they're on the couch to cuddle, but I'm still a little clumsy. I think I'm no bigger than a cat sometimes! I'm no longer afraid to go out for walks and I've learned to let people eat without disturbing them. I've really progressed in the last few months and I'm ready to continue on this path.

My foster mom has been working on lots of things with me, including the basics: sitting, lying down, giving a paw, crawling, turning and standing up. I'm used to bathing. Learning tricks helps me channel my energy by stimulating me mentally. I can be taught things by rewarding me with toys, since I can't eat treats.

**I suffer from a congenital malformation like other puppies in my litter. I have a megaesophagus that retains food, causing me to regurgitate quite often. It's not operable, and I'll stay like this for the rest of my life. The aim is simply to control my regurgitation as much as possible (to avoid aspiration pneumonia) by analyzing my reactions, creating a routine and giving me a good structure. I can't really stay at home alone for long periods because of my malformation.

I currently have to eat 4 small meals a day in an upright position. I have to be given my portions slowly and left standing in my chair for half an hour afterwards (see photos above). I'm already used to my chair and go straight in when I'm hungry! I easily take my oral medication every 2 hours. I'm also treated in internal medicine at the Centre Vétérinaire Rive-Sud, at the organization's expense.

My family will be responsible for covering my parasite treatments (the season is approaching!), paying for any accessories I may need at home, and making trips to the vet in case of emergency. They'll also have to make sure I don't run out of medication or food, and fill out a form so the organization can have it prepared at their expense.

I'm a candidate for a compassionate adoption through the Passport for Life program. This means that, as long as I'm in the care of the organization, my care and food will be covered. You'll be able to adopt me permanently once my regurgitation is under control. I've actually been doing better lately. It will be a trial-and-error process over an indeterminate period. I really need someone motivated to give me time and lots of love!

Ready to make me your four-legged companion? 💖

Cats

I get along with cats, but I confess I have yet to learn to respect their boundaries.

Dogs

I do resource guarding, so it's not ideal for me to live with another dog.

Other pets

I'm a bit on the rough side, so I don't think I could live with small animals.

Kids

I have never met children, but I would be better off in an environment with adults.

How does adoption work?

You will be adopting an animal whose care has not yet been completed, which means that you will be responsible for it in the event of an incident, and for certain purchases of accessories. The organization will cover the completion of basic care, spay/neuter, and care related to the animal's condition if applicable. Unlike many organizations that only offer the 1st dose of vaccines, we cover the entire vaccination protocol for all our passengers.

Interview

A member of our team will call you to discuss the animal
