Mélanie et Mayday - Refuge animal
About

We are a non-profit organization that primarily provides advanced care for cats and dogs in need of medical assistance, and specializes in cases of neglect and cruelty.

Mission Mayday's primary missions are to educate the public about animal welfare and to rescue animals in need, like Mayday.

As we have no physical shelter, everything is managed remotely by a team of dedicated volunteers, many of whom have experience in clinics and emergency centres.

Our missions

- To rescue and care for dogs and cats that are abandoned or in need

- To find permanent homes for these animals if necessary (foster families)

- To recruit foster families to take in animals that are abandoned or in need

- To promote the importance of sterilization to reduce pet overpopulation

- To educate the public on the importance of responsible pet care

When do we accept medical aid in dying?

When an animal will not be able to have a good quality of life in the long term, we stop before over-zealous treatment.

Our mission is to provide medical assistance to animals in need, which, in most cases, will mean giving them one last chance.

What care do we provide?

That’s quite simple; Mission Mayday’s dogs and cats will receive the same care as if they were our own pets. We will do everything we can to give them a fresh start, or a happy ending with their families.

Our activities rely 100% on our volunteers, who dedicate themselves 7 days a week to rescuing and caring for animals in distress. We cover the Greater Montreal area, as well as the St-Hyacinthe and St-Jean-sur-Richelieu regions.

We are a virtual shelter, which means we don't have a building in which we take in animals. They are cared for by foster families at our expense, until they are ready for adoption. Visiting our dogs and cats is therefore not possible.

We rely on financial support from the public and local businesses to fund our rescues. Our fundraisers enable us to help each animal individually, and general donations enable us to cover the rest of the bills.

We work with a number of veterinary clinics, which offer us between 10% and 30% discount on the care of our protégés. We also go to referral centres for emergencies, and consult specialists for the most complex cases.

How do we operate?

Our programs

Special adoptions We partner with Humane Society International Canada to find homes for dogs rescued from the Asian meat trade and other difficult situations. To discover the dogs in the program who are looking for a forever family, click here.

Special adoptions

1

As part of our partnership with the organization Chiots Nordiques, we take in dogs and cats from remote communities for care and/or adoption.

Supporting indigenous communities

3

Many of our passengers have zero adoption potential. We cover all their needs with the help of their virtual adopters, who make a monthly donation. To help one of these animals, click here.

Special rescues

We take in animals who come from situations of neglect and abuse, to keep them from being euthanized. Their past history and origin will always remain confidential to ensure their safety.
